World Cup 2010: A Monumental Victory for Spain

The 2010 FIFA World Cup has come to an end. While soccer fans around the world put away their vuvuzelas and wash the paint off their faces, Spain continues to celebrate. With nearly 3,200,000 fans in attendance, World Cup goers piled into the Johannesburg Stadium in South Africa on July 11, 2010 to watch Andres Iniesta, hailing from FC Barcelona, score the winning goal of the final game against the Netherlands. Neither Spain nor the Netherlands have ever advanced to the finals, making for an exciting game for both teams, and certainly a monumental win for Spain.

The day prior, in Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, the gut-wrenching battle for third place between Uruguay and Germany brought equal excitement. Unlike Spain and the Netherlands, neither of these teams are strangers to the limelight of the World Cup finals; most recently, Germany winning the 1990 World Cup in Italy, and Uruguay winning in Brazil back in 1950. In the end, it was Germany who came out victorious with a score of 3-2, leaving Uruguay in fourth place.

To win the World Cup is more than just a win, in the same way that soccer, for most nations, is much more than a game. Soccer is a way of life for many people, and the perpetual heartbeat of many a nation. That being said, a win in the World Cup is a tremendously proud moment. For Spain, and all other past victors, a moment that will live on throughout history. You can learn more and compare any and everything that interests you at FindTheBest.com.
